Where it all began
Inspired by his Grandfather
James Melhorn's fascination with the carpentry trade began when he saw his Grandpa Lehman shaving a piece of wood with a hand plane. Those simple curlicues were enough to inspire him. As a young man, James began his carpentry career working with a developer in the Union Deposit area.

1975 - 1985
Building on a Solid Foundation
After a slow time in 1975 and a passion to develop a company that builds to a better standard, he began his own company. After 10 years of growing, Melhorn Builders was incorporated in 1985. With the accounting and administrative expertise of his wife, Mary Jane, the company embarked on a journey of serving Central Pennsylvania with craftsmanship and integrity.
1985 - 2010
Leaving a Mark in Pennsylvania
During those 35 years, Melhorn Builders has been serving all of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and it's suburbs, including: Mechanicsburg, Lewisberry, Camp Hill, Dillsburg, Union Deposit, Colonial Park, Cambers Hill, Hummelstown, Middletown, Susquehanna Township, as well as the counties of Dauphin, Cumberland, and York.

The Legacy Continues
Jerrold Melhorn grew up around the building trade, knowing very well the ups and downs of the building market as well as the long hours and hard work it takes to keep a small business running. After working under his father’s direction through high school and college, Jerrold completed a small business management degree and officially partnered with his father running the family business in 2005. Responsibilities were shared for 5 years before the management of the company was transitioned to Jerrold. In 2014, Jim retired and enjoys a leisurely involvement with the company.
In the first 20 years, we built many custom homes, as well as completed numerous renovations and additions.
In the past 20 years, we have chosen to specialize in the remodeling and addition market, enjoying the challenge of seamlessly blending the new with the old, making it look like we were never there. Each design is tailor-made for the specific customer and existing conditions.
